I know what I want how do I find it in Port St. Lucie?
Port St. Lucie homes with no HOA are especially appealing to buyers who want more flexibility with their property. I’m currently working with buyers who have a very specific wish list: a newer or updated home, no HOA, and enough room to keep their boat and trailer at home.
And that got me thinking — they certainly aren’t the only Treasure Coast buyers looking for this combination.
The good news is that Port St. Lucie can be a great place to find it. But simply checking “no HOA” in a home search isn’t enough.
Where Would I Start Looking?
Unlike many newer Florida master-planned communities, large portions of Port St. Lucie were developed as individual residential lots rather than HOA-controlled neighborhoods. If you’re still deciding which type of neighborhood fits your lifestyle, I recently shared 7 things buyers should know before choosing a Port St. Lucie community.
That creates an interesting mix. In the same general areas, you’ll often find older homes, beautifully updated homes and relatively newer homes — all without a traditional HOA.
For buyers who prefer newer, I would look particularly at some of the residential areas in western and northwestern Port St. Lucie where newer homes and infill construction can be found among established properties.
If easy access to the water is the bigger priority, I’d also consider areas farther east and southeast, where you’re closer to the St. Lucie River and public boat ramps.
The right location depends on what matters most: the age of the home, price, lot size, boat storage or how quickly you want to get that boat into the water.
No HOA Doesn’t Automatically Mean “Boat Friendly”

This is where looking at the actual property becomes important.
A home may have no HOA and what appears online to be a huge side yard. But when we’re standing there with a boat and trailer in mind, we start noticing things differently.
Is the side yard wide enough? Can a trailer get through the gate? Is the AC unit in the way? Can the tow vehicle make the turn?
And then there are Port St. Lucie’s drainage swales.
Many residential streets have grassy drainage areas running along the front of the property, with culverts beneath the driveways. That can affect whether a driveway can simply be widened to create additional access or parking. Port St. Lucie requires a permit when modifying a driveway within the right-of-way.
That’s something I’ve been paying particular attention to while showing homes to these buyers. A big patch of grass beside a driveway doesn’t necessarily mean we can pave it and pull a boat across it.
And, of course, no HOA doesn’t mean no rules. City regulations still apply to boat and trailer storage, so that’s something we verify for the individual property.
Don’t Forget the Trip to the Water
If you own a boat, I’d also think about where you actually plan to launch it.
Port St. Lucie has public options including C-24 Canal Park and Veterans Park at Rivergate. Someone who boats every weekend may value easier ramp access more than someone who takes the boat out occasionally.
That’s why I wouldn’t automatically tell every boat owner to search the same part of Port St. Lucie. You can also explore Port St. Lucie and other Treasure Coast communities as you compare locations and lifestyles.
Can We Find It? Yes.
Port St. Lucie homes with no HOA and room for a boat are out there, including newer and updated options.
But instead of searching only for “no HOA,” I want to know about your boat.
How large is it? What’s the total length with the trailer? Do you want it beside the house or are you comfortable with driveway storage where permitted? How often are you taking it out?
Those answers help determine where we should actually look.
Because a listing can say there’s “room for a boat.”
I want to know whether there’s room for YOUR boat.
